UK Global Screen Fund Gets a Major Boost

The BFI has unveiled strategic plans for an expanded UK Global Screen Fund, with its annual budget increasing from ยฃ7m to over ยฃ18m per year for 2026 to 2029.

The expanded fund introduces new support strands including a Film Sales Minimum Guarantee for UK sales agents, a Video Game Release strand for UK game developers, and new development funding for internationally-facing projects. For anyone working in film, TV, animation, documentary or games, this is one of the most significant injections of public funding the sector has seen in years.

Creative Industries Growing Four Times Faster Than the UK Economy

Official figures show that creative industries GVA grew by an estimated 4.6% between 2023 and 2024 โ€” four times faster than the UK economy overall, which grew by just 1%.

The fastest-growing subsectors were IT, software and computer services (up 8.7%) and architecture (up 6.8%), while film, TV, radio, photography, and advertising also posted gains.

The figures confirm what most people working in this space already sense: the creative sector is outperforming the broader economy at scale.
