How to use the Take Home Pay Calculator UK

1. Enter your gross salary

  • Type your annual salary before tax and deductions into the “Salary (£)” box.

2. Select pay frequency

  • Choose how your salary is paid: Yearly, monthly, weekly, every 2 weeks, every 4 weeks, daily, hourly.
  • Most full-time jobs use “Yearly”.

3. Select your region

  • Choose England, Wales & NI or Scotland.
  • Tax rates & bands differ slightly by region.

4. Check your tax code

  • Default for most people is 1257L (standard personal allowance of £12,570).
  • You can find your tax code on your payslip or P60.

5. Add pension contributions (optional)

  • If you contribute to a pension, enter the percentage or or £ amount deducted from your pay before tax.

6. Select student loan plan (if applicable)

  • Choose your loan type (Plan 1, 2, 4, or Postgraduate Loan) or “None” if not repaying one.
  • The calculator will deduct repayments automatically if selected.

7. Tick other applicable boxes

  • Claim Marriage Allowance if your spouse transfers allowance.
  • Blind Person’s Allowance if eligible.
  • Exclude NI Contributions if you want to see income tax only.
  • Are you 66 or over? If yes, NI won’t be deducted.

8. Click “Calculate”
